The Battle of Valcour Island was a pivotal battle of the American Revolution fought on Lake Champlain in early October of 1776. It was both a tactical defeat and strategic victory for the American colonies. This was the first fleet-to-fleet naval battle of Revolutionary War after the Declaration of Independence was signed. Without the battle at Valcour Island, the battle of Saratoga, NY would never have happened, and the fledging American states would have lost the War for Independence by Christmas of 1776.
